COLUMBIA - Sue Cathcart Cathey, 85, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on August 8, 2017, from complications of a fall.



The burial service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery at 2:30 pm on Sunday, August 13. Dr. James R. Simoneau of Young Meadows Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, Alabama will be officiating. Visitation and a reception will be held at Eau Claire Presbyterian Church, 628 Muller Avenue, in the Fellowship Hall following the graveside service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel is assisting the family.

Sue was born in Columbia, South Carolina on September 24, 1931. She graduated from Columbia High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.



Sue was married to the late John B. Cathey on September 18, 1953; they were married 32 years.



Sue worked at the South Carolina State Tax Commission for many years before her retirement in 1993. She enjoyed her family and was actively involved in churches where she lived. She was a volunteer at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina and at Sav-a-Life in Montgomery, Alabama.



Sue is survived by her daughter, Susan Simoneau and her husband, Jim; her grandchildren, Joy Simoneau, Joel Simoneau and his wife, Hayley, Jonathan Simoneau and his wife, Hannah and Laura Whitten and her husband, Wilson; her great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Susannah, Bria, Rebekah, Emily, Levi, Ezrah, Miriam and Isaac; her nephew, Riley Cathcart; her nieces Betsy Dix and Jayne Noland; her sister-in-law, Lois Cathcart; her brother-in-law, Bob Cathey and his wife, Nancy and other family and friends



Sue was preceded in death by her spouse, John B. Cathey, her daughter, Laura Cathey Clem; her grandson, Christopher Welford Simoneau and her brother, James R. Cathcart, Jr.
