COLUMBIA, SC – A funeral service for Saul Wasserman, 86, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015 in the chapel at Hebrew Benevolent Society Cemetery with burial to follow. Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel is assisting the family.



Mr. Wasserman passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Born in New York, New York, he was a son of the late Charles and Rose Wasserman.

Mr. Wasserman passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Born in New York, New York, he was a son of the late Charles and Rose Wasserman.



Mr. Wasserman grew up in New York and attended James Monroe High School. He was an avid handball player and worked tirelessly as a teenager in his father's grocery store in Harlem. Mr. Wasserman proudly served his country in the United States Army and attended New York University, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He was an Aerospace Engineer with the Department of Defense at Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway, New Jersey for many years until his retirement in the 1980s. He held numerous patents and was the recipient of many awards from industry groups and the U.S. government. He continued his work and career with high level consulting on aerospace projects well into his 80's.



Mr. Wasserman loved the water, boating of all sorts, theatre and travel with his late wife, Rita Wasserman. Saul and Rita were generous donors to various charities throughout their lives. Saul loved spending time with his entire family, especially his grandchildren.



He is survived by his son Mark Wasserman and wife Rebekah of Atlanta, GA; daughter Deborah Greenhouse and husband, David of Columbia; daughter Sue Wasserman of Asheville, NC and grandchildren Jared, Alyssa, Aaron and Hannah. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife, Rita Wasserman. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider sending contributions to NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering.
